Off to the Great Northwest

We have a 3 AM wake-up to make our early flight to Vancouver so I though I’d test the blog to make sure everyone is connected.

We had a farewell kayak on the beautiful Crosswicks Creek a couple of days ago. Marsha accidentally set her iPhone camera to the black & white setting. Quite an amazing accidental photo. Thought I’d share it with you all as part of this test. Let me know if you get this OK.

Thanks to those of you who gave us some great recommendations for the trip. If you’re all set…let’s go!

Off to Alaska…Advice?

We’re getting our act together to begin a two week Alaska adventure next weekend. Never having explored there before, we’re seeking some advice and recommendations. Many of you have already been — so dig deep into that gray matter (will be a good exercise for you too) and see if you can come up with memories you’d care to share to help make our journey even more fulfilling. Here’s our basic itinerary:

  • Vancouver (Saturday and half of Sunday)
  • Cruising the inside passage north-bound (via Holland America) to Seward with stops at:
  • Ketichan
  • Juneau
  • Skagway
  • Seward
  • Glacier Bay
  • Cruising Kenai Fjords
  • Seward to Anchorage on Alaska Dome Railway
  • Anchorage
  • Driving to Talkeetna
  • Driving to Grand Denali Lodge (2-days there)
  • Kantishna Wilderness Trails Tour
  • Driving back to Anchorage

We’ll be on boat and foot for the first week and driving the second. With that in mind, in what good sites, hikes and eats should we partake?

Give us a hand…and join us as we post when and where we can. See you next week.

Thanks,

Joel & Marsha

Announcing My New Book

Our_Love_is_Purple.._Cover_for_KindleJust finished my 7th decade (Whoa!)…and decided to let some of my 50+ years of sentimental ramblings out of the closet.

I’ve always written personal observations and poetry for my loved ones for our celebrations and milestones. I’ve recently been collecting them to put in one place for the kids and grand-kids and beyond.

As I was gathering some of what I’d written for Marsha it struck me that there are some universal themes that just might be appreciated by others sharing their own loving relationships. So I published, “Our Love is Purple — Flamingos are Pink” (with Marsha’s permission of course).

If you’d like to take a peek, it’s up on Amazon in both print and e-reader formats. FYI, I’m donating all royalties from sales to the early childhood education organization our daughter Jessica’s been involved with — SCO Family of Services’ “Parent-Child-Home” program.

Share it with someone, gift it for an anniversary or birthday, or use it to level a projector — and please let me know what you think.

And/or you can peruse the poems here in my Blog archive (the link below will take you to a new page where you can view or save the .docx formatted document):
