The Moon, The Sun and Seeing Stars

The City of the Gods, Teotihuacan. We walked the Calzada de los Muertos, the avenue of the dead, from the pyramid of the moon (above) to the pyramid of the sun. The religious center traces its origins between 600 and 200 years BCE, with vestiges of the Aztec culture, the conquest of the Aztecs, and the modern era. In Search of Chichen Itza

It’s time! We’ve been “dormant” long enough…just carefully sticking our noses out of our masks and dipping our toes in places we love in a few States surrounding us. But the “travel bug’s” been biting us for so long now, that the itch has become unbearable.

The fact is, we’ve visited every one of the modern wonders of the world, but one, Chichen Itza. So, Mexico, here we come. We’ve booked with our favorite tour company, SmarTours. We’ll be flying out of Newark (at ~4:45 am…Arrgghh) on January 12th bound for Mexico City through Houston. We’ll meet up with our group in Mexico City, spend a couple of days and then to the colonial city of Puebla on our way to one of our favorite places, Oaxaca. It’s a leading (serious) craft center in Mexico and renowned culinary center (we took an intense cooking course there…the home of Mexico’s five moles).

Then we head for the Caribbean coast to Valladolid and Playa del Carmen where we’ll make our visit to Chichen Itza. After a wind-down day at the beach we’ll fly out of Cancun back to Newark.

So once again…and about time…join us on our journey. You’ll get an email each time we post. We’ll try to keep our ramblings short (knowing your time constraints), letting photos and perhaps some videos do most of the talking. Please comment as we go with your observations and recommendations. And, any personal recommendations from your experience in these places will be very welcome!

VAMOS!

Traveling Local in a Crazy Year!

The Crosswicks Creek, part of the Abbott Marshlands

Instead of heading to places both far and foreign (at least for a while – we’ve actually begun to plan a trip for next April to South Africa – stay tuned) we’re taking a new, hard, eyes wide open look at what’s not far from our front door.
